Hello. I am Leonardo Da Vinci, an Italian scientist, artist, and inventor. I was born on April 15, 1452 in Vinci, Italy, just outside of Florence. My parents continued having children, (not with each other) and eventually supplied me with 17 half sisters and brothers.
Paintings:
I create my art with perspective, and other realistic elements. I always try to create faithful renditions of life. My desire to paint things realistically was bold and fresh.
My study of nature and anatomy emerged in my stunningly realistic paintings. I dissected the human body and paved the way for remarkably accurate figures. I believe that the artist must know not jsut the rules of perspective, but the laws of nature.
Science:
I bridged the gap between unscientific medieval methods and our own trusty modern approach. Even though I was greatly influence by the writings of ancient Greeks and Romans, I would observe nature and ask simple scientific questions like, "How do birds fly?" Then I would systematically record my solutions in my sketches.
Inventions:
Luckily for me, I was really talented as an engineer. Artists always found it difficult to make a living off their art, so I was forced to sell out in order to support myself. I adapted my drawing skills in fields of architecture, military engineering, canal building, and weapon design. I landed a job working for the Duke of Milan as a military engineer and I outlined some of his sinister ideas for weapons.
See you next time,
Leonardo Da Vinci
